Pakistan, Oct. 7 -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday praised Pakistan for its role as a trusted mediator between the United States and Iran, saying Islamabad's credibility with countries at odds with each other had helped create conditions for negotiations and de-escalation in one of the world's most dangerous conflicts.

Speaking alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during a joint press stakeout at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Guterres said Pakistan's initiative in relation to the Gulf conflict was remarkable and demonstrated the importance of having countries that could be trusted by opposing sides.
