Pakistan, Aug. 28 -- The federal government has decided to replace Pakistan's 12-slab gas tariff with a uniform rate. The move will change how domestic consumers pay for gas. Protected households will receive support through an income-based subsidy system.

Under the proposed system, protected consumers will receive targeted financial assistance. The government plans to support low-income households through direct subsidies. The reform will replace the current slab-based pricing structure.

Government and International Monetary Fund officials will discuss the reform during the fourth programme review. The review will take place in September and October 2026. Both sides will work to finalise a timeline for removing cross-subsidies.
