Pakistan, Sept. 3 -- A government delegation met Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman over protests against the petroleum levy. Both sides formed negotiation teams after the meeting in Lahore. Jamaat-e-Islami also announced that its sit-ins would continue during the talks. The development comes as the party presses for relief from rising public costs.

The government team included Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, and Khawaja Salman Rafique. Jamaat-e-Islami appointed deputy chief Liaquat Baloch to lead its negotiation team. Ahsan Iqbal said the government wants relief for people and remains ready for practical proposals. He also urged cooperation to maintain internal peace amid the current situation.
