Pakistan, Aug. 14 -- Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan urged Pakistanis to promote national unity, collective responsibility and economic self-reliance while celebrating the country's 79th Independence Day.

Speaking at a flag-hoisting ceremony at Governor House Lahore, he said Pakistan was created through immense sacrifices and required greater unity to achieve lasting progress.

Representatives of the American, Chinese and Iranian consulates, along with the UK mission, attended the ceremony, while schoolchildren presented national songs and joined the celebrations.
