Pakistan, Sept. 7 -- The government and Jamaat-e-Islami have agreed to continue talks on eliminating the petroleum levy. The first round ended in Islamabad on Sunday. JI presented six proposals aimed at reducing the financial burden on consumers. Both sides will meet again on Thursday after government consultations.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal led the government delegation during the negotiations. He said the government did not want to impose additional pressure on citizens. However, he said global economies faced difficulties because of the Iran war. He added that governments sometimes had to take difficult decisions during crises.
