Pakistan, Sept. 2 -- Global temperatures are expected to rise above the key 1.5degC threshold within the next few years, increasing risks from extreme weather worldwide. The United Nations Environment Programme warned that higher temperatures could put greater pressure on ecosystems, glaciers and coastal cities. The warning highlights the growing challenges facing countries under the 2015 Paris Agreement.
The Paris Agreement aims to keep global warming below 1.5degC compared with pre-industrial levels. However, UNEP said a temporary rise above the threshold now appears extremely likely. Countries must therefore work to reduce the time temperatures remain above the limit and prevent further warming.
