Pakistan, Sept. 7 -- A senior US-backed Board of Peace official has warned about worsening violence in Gaza and the West Bank. Nickolay Mladenov said the escalation now threatens the future of a two-state solution.
Mladenov serves as the Board of Peace's lead envoy for Gaza. He spoke at the Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi on Monday. He said Gaza must follow the agreed comprehensive plan to preserve a political pathway toward peace.
He said Israeli forces now control more than half of Gaza, while Hamas controls less than half. Mladenov said the situation offers no credible route toward resolving the conflict through politics. He also warned that delays could further damage hopes for a political settlement.
