Pakistan, Sept. 21 -- Hundreds of thousands of children in Gaza have returned to in-person classes after nearly three years away from regular schooling. Students began the new academic year in tents, temporary centres and damaged buildings across the enclave. UNICEF says 98% of Gaza schools have suffered damage or destruction during the war.
About 660,000 students lost regular access to classroom education during the conflict. Education officials expect at least 540,000 children to attend makeshift schools, temporary learning centres and other educational points this year. Online classes will continue for students who cannot attend in person or have left Gaza.
