Pakistan, Sept. 30 -- Student protests over poor school conditions and teacher shortages have intensified across France, with clashes reported in several cities. France's Education Minister Edouard Geffray said 76 students and school staff had suffered injuries since the demonstrations began.

The protests spread to cities including Lyon, Lille and Saint-Denis near Paris. Some protesters burned rubbish bins and threw objects during clashes with police.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said authorities detained 440 people during Tuesday's protests. He said most detainees were minors and linked the arrests to property damage and clashes with police.
