Pakistan, June 28 -- France has recorded approximately 1,000 excess deaths during the record-breaking heatwave that has swept across Europe, according to the country's public health . Officials warned that the preliminary figure is likely to increase as additional reports from hospitals, residential care facilities and private homes continue to be reviewed.

Sante Publique said most of the reported deaths involved people aged 65 and older, although the extreme temperatures affected people across all age groups. The expects the mortality rate to rise further as health authorities complete assessments and receive updated information from healthcare institutions nationwide.
