Pakistan, Aug. 14 -- Pakistan has recorded its strongest fiscal performance in 22 years, with the fiscal deficit falling to 2.6 per cent of GDP and the primary surplus rising to a record 2.9 per cent of GDP during fiscal year 2025-26, Advisor to Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad said on Thursday.

In a statement highlighting the country's fiscal performance, the adviser said the figures marked a decisive shift from recurring fiscal stress towards greater fiscal discipline, stability and sustainable growth. He said Pakistan had achieved three consecutive years of primary surpluses, with the primary balance improving from a deficit to a surplus of 0.9 per cent in FY2024, 2.4 per cent in FY2025 and a record 2.9 per cent in FY2026.
