Pakistan, Sept. 18 -- Fiji has declared a national HIV emergency after recording a sharp rise in new infections. Health Minister Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu announced the emergency this week. Health authorities estimate that one in 60 adults in Fiji now lives with HIV. The figure has increased from one in 167 adults five years ago. Fiji recorded 2,016 new HIV diagnoses in 2025 alone. UNAIDS data shows new infections have increased 12-fold since 2010.
