ISLAMABAD, Aug. 17 -- The federal government total debt increased by Rs18,832 billion over 28 months. The rise occurred between March 2024 and June 2026. State Bank of Pakistan documents showed a sharp increase in domestic and external borrowing. Domestic debt accounted for most of the overall increase. The figures highlight continued pressure on the government's finances.

According to the documents, domestic debt increased by Rs16,766 billion during the period. Meanwhile, external debt rose by Rs2,066 billion.
