Pakistan, Aug. 23 -- EU wildfire aid is being sent to Serbia as massive blazes continue burning across parts of the country. The European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism will provide helicopters, firefighters and vehicles to support local emergency teams.

Serbia activated the emergency mechanism on Friday after struggling for weeks to contain fires in Deliblatska Pescara. The nature reserve, located around 80 kilometres from Belgrade, contains distinctive sand dunes and large forested areas.

The European assistance will include four Black Hawk firefighting helicopters, 55 firefighters and 24 vehicles from Germany. Romania will send another 69 firefighters and 15 vehicles to strengthen Serbia's firefighting response.
