Pakistan, Aug. 11 -- The Election Commission of Pakistan has asked the Punjab government to form a provincial cabinet committee to discuss the date for local government elections. The move comes as preparations begin for deciding the polling schedule in the province.

The ECP has invited Punjab government representatives to a consultation meeting at its Islamabad office on August 20. The meeting will begin at 11am and will focus specifically on fixing a date for the local government elections.

In its letter, the commission directed the Punjab government to immediately establish the cabinet committee for consultations. The committee will represent the provincial government during discussions over the proposed election schedule.
