Djokovic struggled to adjust to Shanghai's fast court surface against Hurkacz, who won the tournament in 2023. The Polish player delivered 13 aces during the one-hour-and-28-minute contest. Djokovic admitted he did not feel comfortable on court and found his opponent's serve extremely difficult to return.
