Pakistan, Aug. 28 -- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar warned India against using the Indus Waters Treaty as political pressure. He said any attempt to deprive Pakistan of its allocated waters could have serious regional consequences. Dar made the remarks during a virtual seminar in Washington on Friday. He said the 1960 treaty remains valid, binding and fully operative under international law. India placed its treaty obligations in abeyance in April 2025. Pakistan rejected that move and continues to defend its water rights. Dar said neither country can unilaterally suspend obligations under the agreement.
