Pakistan, Aug. 23 -- The United States (US) is experiencing a summer increase in COVID-19 infections. Cases are rising or likely rising across 47 states.
Wastewater data shows coronavirus levels increased by 105 percent in August compared with July. The South and West recorded the strongest increases. However, national COVID-19 activity remains relatively low. Health experts still expect infections to increase during the summer travel season.
The virus has developed a seasonal pattern in recent years. Unlike influenza and RSV, COVID-19 infections can cause significant waves during both summer and winter. The latest increase began in July. Similar summer waves have also occurred since 2022.
