Pakistan, June 28 -- South Korea deployed fighter jets after more than 10 Chinese and Russian military aircraft entered its Air Defense Identification Zone on Friday. The aircraft did not violate South Korean sovereign airspace but prompted a precautionary military response. The incident highlights continued regional security tensions in Northeast Asia.
According to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, the aircraft entered and exited the Korea Air Defense Identification Zone sequentially over the East Sea and waters south of the Korean Peninsula. Military officials said the movements were detected before the aircraft entered the zone. Air Force fighter jets were then dispatched to prepare for possible contingencies.
