Pakistan, Sept. 17 -- In Balochistan, a road is more than a route between two locations. It can connect a farmer to a market, a student to an institution and a patient to a hospital. Better connectivity can reduce the economic penalty imposed by distance and help integrate remote communities into wider markets.

Digital connectivity is becoming equally important. Reliable electricity, telecommunications and internet access are now basic requirements for education and modern employment. The incorporation of solar-powered solutions into newer facilities is particularly relevant in a province with immense renewable-energy potential.

But the real test of development is not the inauguration ceremony. It is what happens afterwards.
