Pakistan, June 26 -- Ashura will be observed today across Pakistan to mark the 10th of Muharram with solemnity, processions, and mass gatherings commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Husain (RA) and his companions.

The federal and provincial governments had already declared public holidays on June 25 and 26.

Earlier, Muharram 9 processions concluded countrywide amid tight security arrangements as mourners commemorated the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. The central procession in Islamabad for the day was taken out after Zuhr prayers from Markazi Isna Ashari Imambargah in G-6/2.
