Pakistan, Aug. 16 -- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said negotiations with Oman over shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz remain separate from any decision to reopen the strategic waterway.

Araghchi said Tehran and Muscat are discussing technical arrangements for ships because previously used maritime routes are no longer operational and a temporary alternative is being considered.

He said the new route could eventually become permanent and suggested that Iran and Oman may reach an agreement soon, while stressing that navigation arrangements do not mean Hormuz has reopened.
