Pakistan, July 22 -- Amnesty International has called on Indian authorities to immediately stop the use of excessive force against young protesters, expressing concern over the handling of recent demonstrations and urging an independent investigation into police actions.

In a statement, the global human rights organisation said it was deeply concerned about reports of violence against protesters and what it described as the suppression of peaceful dissent.
