Pakistan, Sept. 27 -- Afghan taxi drivers are quietly playing music in their cars despite a Taliban ban enforced by morality police. Music has largely disappeared from Kabul's restaurants, cafes and shops since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. However, some drivers have started playing Afghan and regional songs while taking precautions at security checkpoints.

Taxi driver Roeen said he lowers the volume or switches off the music whenever security forces approach. He said drivers fear the morality police and their authority over public behaviour. Despite those concerns, Roeen said the ban has made him more interested in listening to music.
