Pakistan, Aug. 24 -- Forty-six newly elected members of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Assembly took oath on Monday. The ceremony followed elections for eight reserved seats in the legislative assembly. Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar administered the oath to the lawmakers.

The reserved seats included five positions for women. PML-N candidates Seharish Qamar, Maryam Zaman and Maryam Idrees won three women's seats. PPP candidates Farzana Yaqoob and Zobia Khurshid secured the remaining two positions.

Zobia Khurshid and PML-N candidate Riffat Abid each received five votes. Officials settled the tied contest through a draw. Khurshid's name emerged from the draw, giving her the final women's reserved seat.
