UNESCO honours Tanzania to chair its Heritage Committee for Africa
BUSAN, July 30 -- THE United Republic of Tanzania has been elected Chair of the African Group in UNESCOs World Heritage Committee for a two-year term, reflecting the growing confidence African countries have in the nations leadership and contribution to global heritage conservation.
The election took place during the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, currently underway in Busan, Republic of Korea.
In addition to the chairmanship, Tanzania was also elected Vice-Chair of the World Heritage Committee, placing the country in a key leadership position within the decision-making framework for the implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention.
