Turning mineral wealth into broad-based prosperity
TANZANIA, Sept. 29 -- TANZANIAS mineral sector is entering a potentially significant phase of growth, with mineral sales reaching 7.78tri/- in just six months between January and June this year.
The figure, equivalent to about two-thirds of the 11.7tri/- recorded throughout 2025, points to a sector that is becoming increasingly important to the national economy.
The latest performance is encouraging, but the real measure of success should not be the value of minerals sold alone.
Tanzania must ensure that rising mineral revenues translate into stronger foreign exchange reserves, increased government revenue, employment, investment and tangible improvements in the lives of communities where mining takes place.
