Tanzania calls for stronger government-parliament ties
ARUSHA, Oct. 7 -- PRIME Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has called on governments and parliaments to strengthen cooperation, accountability and good governance to promote peace, development and peoples well-being.
Dr Nchemba made the remarks on Monday evening when addressing the ongoing 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Arusha, noting that parliaments have a critical role in ensuring public institutions respond effectively to citizens needs.
He said parliament was uniquely positioned to advance good governance and inclusive development through legislation, oversight of government programmes, approval of public expenditure and ensuring that the government remains accountable to citizens.
