DAR ES SALAAM, March 10 -- If wealth truly lies beneath the ground and we are certain, then perhaps the time has come for more women to pick up the metaphorical shovel.

That was the cheerful yet determined message from women at the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) as they joined the rest of the world on March 8, 2026 to commemorate International Womens Day.

Instead of simply marking the occasion with speeches and celebrations, the women chose to spotlight a sector long viewed as a male stronghold and that is mining, and invite more women and girls to claim their share of the opportunity.
