NJOMBE, April 29 -- NJOMBE Region has recorded losses exceeding 200bn/- due to recurring fire outbreaks in forest plantations, prompting authorities to step up efforts to contain the situation.
Regional Commissioner, Mr Antony Mtaka said the region will collaborate with the VicePresidents Office and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism to strengthen fire prevention measures, particularly in rural areas where most plantation activities are concentrated.
He said fire incidents have significantly affected investors, traders and local communities engaged in forestry-related businesses, including timber production and utility pole supply, which are key economic activities in the region.
