KIGOMA, July 25 -- KIGOMA Regional Commissioner Ambassador Simon Sirro has directed local government authorities to strengthen the use of residents registers to identify and curb illegal immigration in the region.

The directive aims to help authorities detect foreign nationals entering, residing and working in Kigoma without complying with Tanzanias immigration laws.

Speaking during council meetings held in separate occasions in the region, Ambassador Sirro instructed hamlet, village and street leaders to keep residents registers up to date and work closely with councillors to identify and report people living in their areas illegally.
