DAR ES SALAAM, March 28 -- THE Japan-based Toyo Engineering Corporation has expressed interest in investing in a fertilizer manufacturing plant in Tanzania, aiming to boost local production using natural gas and coal.

The development emerged during talks between Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture (Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanisation), Athumani Kilundumya, and TOYOs Director of International Business Department, Taisuke Nonaka, who was accompanied by a senior sales manager from the same division.

The proposed facility would produce key fertilisers, including ammonia and urea, in a move expected to enhance availability and support agricultural productivity in the country.
