DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 11 -- AS Tanzania and China continue to build on their longstanding friendship, a table tennis competition is offering a practical way to translate diplomatic goodwill into people-to-people connections, cultural understanding and broader cooperation.

The fifth China-Tanzania Friendship Cup Table Tennis Competition recently in Dar es Salaam demonstrated that sport can complement formal diplomacy by creating direct interaction between the two peoples and opening new possibilities for sustained sporting and cultural exchanges.

The competition has grown beyond a contest for points and medals, becoming a platform where Tanzanians and Chinese meet, compete, learn from one another and build friendships.
