Call for stronger marine research
ZANZIBAR, Aug. 19 -- ZANZIBAR and China have launched a joint technical initiative to strengthen marine research and scientific data collection, aiming to protect fragile coastal ecosystems and support the island nations expanding blue economy.
Opening a 14-day training program for marine specialists in Zanzibar, Deputy Minister for Blue Economy and Fisheries Mboja Ramadhan Mshenga said reliable data is crucial to prevent overexploitation and guide sustainable ocean management.
“Scientific research provides direction for the proper use of the ocean and helps create a safe environment for the sea and its organisms,” Mshenga said.
