KIGOMA, July 21 -- PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassans launch of the Tabora-Kigoma Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) yesterday marks one of the most significant milestones in Tanzanias infrastructure journey.

Together with the inauguration of new cargo vessels on Lake Tanganyika and the upgraded Kigoma Port cargo terminal, the event underscored the governments determination to transform western Tanzania into a gateway for regional trade and economic growth.

The 2.7 billion US dollars (about 7.12tri/-) investment in the 506-kilometre electrified railway is more than a transport project.

It completes a vital section of the Central Corridor, extending the SGR to Kigoma while preparing for a future link with the planned Uvinza-Musongati railway, str...
