DAR ES SALAAM, July 15 -- THE Bank of T a n z a n i a (BoT) has recently increased the Central Bank Rate (CBR) from 5.75 per cent to 6.25 per cent for the third quarter of this year, marking one of the years most notable monetary policy moves.

BoT Governor Mr Emmanuel Tutuba announced this change following the Monetary Policy Committee meeting, which was followed by the BoTs formal notice issued on July 3, 2026.

The move comes amid rising inflation, which reached 4.2 per cent in May, up from 3.2 per cent in March, while remaining within the 3-5 per cent target, and the ongoing depreciation of the Tanzanian shilling in the first half of the year.
