DAR ES SALAAM, March 9 -- THE African Union has selected Tanzania to host a youth training centre on environment and climate change, a move expected to strengthen the countrys role in regional and global climate action.

Permanent Secretary in the Vice Presidents Office Richard Muyungi announced the development during a special iftar event for environmental stakeholders held at the College of Environmental Studies, Climate Change and Sustainable Development in Bunju, Dar es Salaam stating that the decision was made during the 39th Summit of African Heads of State and Government held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on February 14–15, 2026.

The summit was attended by various leaders including Tanzanias President, Samia Suluhu Hassan.
