Sri Lanka, April 20 -- A 25-year-old man died of a heart attack while participating in a tug-of-war competition at a New Year festival in Koswatte on April 17.

The incident occurred at the Meegahawela Government School playground within the Koswatte police division. The deceased was identified as Sandun Tharaka, a married resident of Meegahawela, Koswatte.

The Meegahawela Youth Club had organised the festival for the fourth time, with events held throughout the day on April 17. Tharaka had participated in several games, both individually and alongside his wife.

His team had successfully won the first round of the tug-of-war competition. However, Tharaka collapsed while competing in the final round.
