Sri Lanka, Feb. 24 -- Former Police Inspector Jagath Nishantha, a key suspect in the high-profile shooting incident near the W15 Hotel in Weligama, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Nishantha, who had been absconding abroad since the incident, was apprehended upon his return to Sri Lanka yesterday (23).
The incident, which occurred on December 31, 2023, during an unauthorized Colombo Crime Division (CCD) operation, tragically resulted in the death of a police officer.
