Sri Lanka, July 3 -- The Horana District General Hospital has been upgraded to a District General Hospital under the Health and Mass Media Ministry.
Hospital Director Dr. Rasika Liyanage said Cabinet approval for this transition was received on July 1.
Although the hospital, situated between the Ratnapura and Kalutara districts and continuously serves several surrounding regional hospitals, was previously administered under the Western Provincial Council it was upgraded to a District General Hospital status in 2022.
The hospital will now be fully capable of operating as a District General Hospital directly under the Ministry.
In 2022, the hospital consisted of 20 units, including wards and clinics which has now expanded to 37 units.
