Two suspects apprehended with ambergris
Sri Lanka, Sept. 14 -- The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended two suspects and seized over 67 kg of ambergris during a search operation in the South Bar beach area of Mannar on September 11.Sri Lanka Business
The suspects have been identified as residents of Mannar, aged 25 and 36.
Commercial trade of ambergris is banned under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance. The Navy handed over the suspects and the seized ambergris to the Mannar Wildlife Conservation Department office for further legal action.
The consignment, believed to have been illegally collected and prepared for transport, was intercepted by Naval personnel attached to SLNS Gajaba of the North Central Naval Command.
