Two foreign drug peddlers smuggling cocaine worth over Rs.130 Mn arrested
Sri Lanka, July 20 -- Two foreign nationals were nabbed by officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit at the Katunayake airport on Saturday while trying to smuggle cocaine worth nearly Rs.130 million into the country.
Customs Narcotics Control Unit officers arrested an African woman who arrived with a stash of cocaine worth around Rs.40 million, packaged into capsules and swallowed. The 54-year-old woman is a teacher from Angola, and she has informed Customs that she is HIV positive.
She had swallowed about 50 cocaine capsules and travelled from Angola to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. From there, she proceeded to Doha, Qatar, and arrived at Katunayake Airport.
