Sri Lanka, Aug. 3 -- Two female officers at the Norwood Divisional Secretariat have been arrested by the Hatton Division Special Crime Investigation Unit for their involvement in defrauding 'Aswesuma' Welfare Relief Funds intended for financially struggling families.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pradeep Weerasekara, in charge of the Hatton Division, stated that the two suspects appear to have defrauded over Rs. 10 million since 2024.

The Senior Superintendent of Police further noted that the two suspects, who were attached to the Accounts branch, carried out this fraud by allegedly diverting funds intended for genuine beneficiary families into the Bank Accounts of their own relatives and close associates.
