SriLanka, Sept. 10 -- Sri Lanka has a historic opportunity to construct three expressways using local resources without relying on foreign loans, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Nishantha Jayaweera said.

He made this observation as Chief Guest at the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Inland Revenue Administration Executive Officers Association in Colombo, where he commended the Inland Revenue Department for its contribution to government revenue generation. Jayaweera said the department generated nearly Rs. 42 billion in additional revenue in 2025, exceeding the highest-ever revenue target assigned to it. In 2026, the department has so far surpassed its revenue target by around 16 to 18 percent, he said.
