Sri Lanka, June 3 -- A new programme aimed at expanding the local batik industry from villages to the international market was initiated in Gampaha recently.

Under the guidance of the Industries and Entrepreneurship Development Ministry and the Industrial Development Board (IDB), this initiative provides direct support and modern technical training to 180 women involved in small-scale manufacturing in Gampaha and other areas through an excellent regulatory framework, aimed at taking their products to the global market.

The inaugural event with a local batik fashion show was held at the Nature Park Hotel in Yakkala, Gampaha, supported by Silkoura Batik Fashion.
