Sri Lanka, April 28 -- A report outlining recommendations to enable over 1.5 million Sri Lankans residing overseas to participate in domestic elections has been formally handed over to Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government Minister A.H.M.H. Abayarathna. The report was compiled by a Special Committee appointed to develop the legal and practical framework required to facilitate overseas voting.
Accepting the report, the Minister emphasised that it is unjust to deny Sri Lankans abroad, who make a significant contribution to the national economy, the right to participate in deciding the country's governance.
