Sri Lanka, March 13 -- Sri Lanka is repatriating the remains of 84 Iranian sailors who died when their frigate, IRIS Dena, was sunk on March 4 by a torpedo fired from a United States submarine while sailing in international waters, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.Beaches & Islands
The repatriation, announced on Friday, will be carried out using a chartered aircraft sent by Iran, Ministry spokesman Thushara Rodrigo told several international news agencies. The Iranian embassy also confirmed that arrangements have been made to return the bodies to Iran.
"The 32 sailors who were rescued by our navy will remain in Sri Lanka," Rodrigo said.
