Sri Lanka, Feb. 25 -- In a landmark move for the nation's digital evolution, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne announced today (25) that all arrangements are in place to issue a high-accuracy Digital Identity Card to the public by the end of 2026.Sri Lanka Travel Guide

Speaking at a media briefing on Sri Lanka's digital transformation, the Deputy Minister noted that while efforts to digitize identity have been underway since 2012, recent administrative progress has finally brought the project to its final stages. The procurement process is expected to conclude by April 2026, with the first digital IDs slated for distribution in the third or fourth quarter of the year.
