Sri Lanka, World Bank discussions on offshore wind development
Sri Lanka, Oct. 6 -- World Bank representatives and senior Sri Lankan officials from the renewable energy sector held talks about the next stage of Sri Lanka's Offshore Wind Phase III during a high-level meeting at the Energy Ministry on October 1.
The discussions focused on the findings of the prefeasibility study, the proposed next stage of development, and the way forward to advance the offshore wind programme.
A prefeasibility study on offshore wind development has identified an estimated 1,500 MW of potential offshore wind capacity in the Mannar and Puttalam areas of Sri Lanka. The findings highlight the significant opportunity available for the country to expand renewable energy generation through offshore wind resources.
