Sri Lanka, June 30 -- Sixty-five thousand drivers have been caught for drunk driving from January 1 of this year until yesterday (29), Traffic Control and Road Safety DIG W. P. J. Senadheera said.

The DIG further stated that, in addition to alcohol consumption, operations conducted during this period have also netted 8,500 drivers who were driving under the influence of narcotics such as Ice, heroin, cocaine, cannabis, and hashish.

The DIG added that for the entire year of 2025, only 500 drivers were caught driving under the influence of narcotics, while in 2024, that number was just 88.
